About Playa Larga

Things to do in Playa Larga: guide & attractions →

Playa Larga is the diving-and-nature village on the Bay of Pigs (Bahía de Cochinos), inside the Ciénaga de Zapata — the Caribbean's largest wetland. What makes it unique: you dive and snorkel straight from the shore, with cenotes (Cueva de los Peces) and coral walls just metres off the road.

It is calm, cheap and slow-paced. Beyond the water, Zapata National Park offers some of Cuba's best birdwatching, and Playa Girón and the Bay of Pigs museum lie just south. It is often a stop between Havana and Cienfuegos/Trinidad.

Highlights

  • Shore-entry diving and snorkeling — cenotes and coral metres away
  • Zapata National Park: birds and crocodiles
  • Cueva de los Peces and Caleta Buena nearby
  • A natural stop between Havana and Cienfuegos/Trinidad

Getting there

Around 180 km from Havana (2.5–3 h via Jagüey Grande). Private taxi 120–150 USD one-way. A common stop on the way to Cienfuegos (~1.5 h further).
